Did this update include the option for cell shaded renders? If so is there a guide or general way of implementing that effect?

Its not a cell shader render as in you switch the render type to cell shading. Its implemented through the usage of Toon Shader so to render something in cell shaded way you need to use different materials there is no option to just turn on cell shading. And yes it is implemented.

Thank you for the response. If I understand you correctly I would need to have/create cellshaded materials which would then be rendered by the normal method (pmc/pathtracing?) to achieve the “Toon” effect.

Hi, yep as far as I know there is no other method. Its called Toon Material specifically for this purposes so don't try to tweak other materials to get cell shaded effect although it can be and was done previously

The problem I see with this so far, and I may be missing something, is the lighting.

I spent about 2 hours tinkering with the toon materials, and I find it pretty neat. However It only seems to work properly with the Camera lighting setting. The toon materials do not seem to respect any other lighting, Sun light, HDR, or Texture emission.

Does anyone know if there are plans to allow for the addition of toon lights into the octane render plugin for DS? Camera lighting always gives you a head on blast of light, while using dedicated lights not strapped to the camera would allow for a full range of moods and expressions.

Hi - there is no plan to do this at this stage, meaning you really need to export your scene to Octane Standalone in order to do Toon rendering.
