The information I was able to derive from the marketing material for OR 4, a lot of the plug-ins will be free of charge.
Not sure if Paul is going to follow that path with the DAZ Studio plug-in, since it is decision alone if he is going to charge for it or not. Development time is the key factor here.

So let's see and wait, I'm sure he's going to let us know all this in the foreseeable future :)

A lot of the more recently introduced Octane features never made (and probably never will make) it into the plug-in, Paul is hardly to blame for that though.

It's essentially still leftovers from t_3...

I totally agree. The plugin was in a really bad shape when Paul took over. Modifying other people's code is definitely not easy. I have been writing code and building systems in C/C++ for 21+ years so I can guess what kind of situation Paul faces. But yes, this plugin does need to improve and the bugs fixed. There are few things I am trying to solve on my own. If I succeed, I will share the code with Paul and hopefully he can incorporate it in the plugin code.

In any case I am looking forward to 3.8 release. It did render the scene faster than 3.7. I exported the whole scene from Daz and rendered it under the standalone 3.7 /3.8RC2. I think it was 20% to 30% faster. As for Version 4, I won't my breath. Don't think we will be seeing it any time soon. Just need the 3.8 to speed up my rendering and use some of its new features. I did not see any speed difference between 3.7 and the 4.0 Beta even with the AI Denoiser turned on. I guess its impact depends on what you have on the scene and what materials you are using. In any case 4.0 is still is early development so things will only improve I think. But yes, their demo clip for the AI Denoiser was pretty impressive.

I have updated the TEST installer at the top of this thread with:

3.8.0.38
- Compiled with Octane 3.08 (see viewtopic.php?f=33&t=63219 for details)
- Added Toon, Toon Ramp and Metallic materials
- Toon shading only works in Camera Light toon lighting mode, and the Toon Ramp is not working correctly, so Toon Shading has limited value at this time
- Added BRDF Model, Anisotropy and Rotation to Glossy and Specular Materials
- OSL Textures have not been implemented
- Custom LUT has not been implemented
- Fixed crash when cancelling an animation which has a small Max Samples setting

If no issues are reported in the next week, I will migrate this to the STABLE build.

I possibly could not care less for all the toon stuff.

Personally I would like to see the OSL texture and LUT support implemented instead of all the toon stuff which for me is pretty useless. However, it is still progress.

So thank you for your hard work and let's just hope that the rest of the features will make it in someday... :)

I have looked at how to implement OSL textures and LUT support - and unfortunately the current architecture of the DAZStudio plugin makes this quite difficult. So I don't think it is something you will see in the plugin in the near future - sorry.
