Clients crash / network rendering

3 clients, 2 of them crash.

Situation: C4d files about 200MB, rendering via Picture Viewer or Render Queue, standard GB-network, all PCs Windows 7 x64 / Octane 3.06.2 latest stable

Job 1 starts for 750 frames, all clients start rendering. Then while rendering the first frame the 2 clients crash.
After restarting the OC render client they render without a problem to the end.

The same happens after Job 1 is finished and Job 2 automatically starts - after the first frame the same 2 clients crash and render without a problem to the end after restarting the program (Not the PC!).

Sometimes it's just a "The client crashed" w/o explanation, sometimes it's:

I don't see a way to edit my post, so:

As far as I can see those crashes only happen with bigger files.
The last 200MB file finished just now and the next one is only about 3MB - no crash!

Hi zoppo,
do you have c4d shaders that needs to be auto baked in your bigger scenes?

It is indeed a scene where I use some materials that were converted with "Convert Materials".

It will take a while but I will have a look.

No C4D shaders, at least nothing visible in the Attributes Manager or the Node Editor.

This happens to me as well. No C4D shaders, but only with large files (3-4gb of VRAM, 1 gig filesize). I'll have 7-8 jobs rendering over the weekend on the network, and I have to check up on them in the middle of the night sometimes to make sure the slaves are running to finish on time. The fix is as simple as checking/unchecking the slave to get it back up and running, but can be frustrating to babysit them, and is one of my only issues I have with Octane.

Rendering via Render2PV plugin (starts automatically job after job in the Picture Viewer):

Job 1: 200mb, 2 clients crashed after / in first frame, had to manually restart both render clients -> all 3 finished
Job 2: 220mb, 2 clients crashed after / in first frame, had to manually restart both render clients -> all 3 finished
Job 3: 230mb, 2 clients crashed after / in first frame, had to manually restart both render clients -> all 3 finished
Job 4: 2mb, no crash -> all 3 finished
Job 5: 3mb, no crash -> running atm

MB means size of C4D files! Textures are only a few additional MB.

Are there any log files I can send? Something else?

I did a little experiment:
I took the 3 scenes from yesterday that kept crashing 2 of my 3 clients. I changed them to test material vs. filesize / model.
All have one HDRI sky and 5 area lights.

Scenes 1, 2, 3, are exactly the same for the model and the animation but i changed all materials to one standard glossy material.

In scenes nurmat(1), (2), (3), I deleted the models but left the materials in it and applied each one of them to a bunch of cubes.

Scenes poly1 and poly2 contain just 3 highpoly objects to get the filesize over 200mb, and one standard material.

Jobs:
Image

Start job 1 -> 2 clients crash while rendering the first frame, restart, render finished with all clients
Start job 2 -> 2 clients crash while rendering the first frame, restart, render finished with all clients
Start job 3 -> 2 clients crash while rendering the first frame, restart, render finished with all clients

Start job nurmat(1) -> no crash
Start job nurmat(2) -> no crash
Start job nurmat(3) -> no crash

Start job poly1 -> 2 clients crash while rendering the first frame, restart, render finished with all clients
Start job poly2 -> 2 clients crash while rendering the first frame, restart, render finished with all clients

The 2 clients crash always at different times, e.g. client 1 crashed in the middle of frame 1, client 2 crashed at the end of frame 1.

The crashes for scenes 1, 2, 3, all looked like this:

One of the clients that crashed at the beginning of poly1 showed this message:

Hi zoppo,
you can enable a more verbose log in the Slave prompet, by following the instructions in this link:
