Attic environment

I have been working on an attic environment that I would like to use as a virtual studio for several subjects. This is what I have so far.

I'm having some kind of uv issue with the brick wall. I have tried everything I could think of to fix it, short of recreating the wall. Any ideas?

Hi Jason,

good start, positive criticism is .. :
1. Scale of space seems off
2. lack of depth in displacement / bump in all three surfaces wall , floor, roof
3. window looks cut out and miss the opportunity to give the all depth by being flat (maybe a little bigger or a tracery window for add dynamics

hope this helps

Best

Thanks WM, I agree, I have been struggling with the scale. I'm going to scale down the rafters and the roofing boards, hopefully that will help. The window does have a frame and sill, but I haven't put the window in yet. I can bump up the displacement as well.

I rescaled the rafters and added a bit more depth to the displacements. I also changed out the floor texture for hopefully a better one.

Tomorrow I will add the window and I have some other plans as well.

Life has been busy and I haven't had much time to work on this. But here is an update. Finished the window frame and reworked the floor so it interfaces with the other elements better. Next is the window glass and a light.

Still working on the light, but I did render another view with the new V3 test version.

Finding it hard to find good old worn looking floor textures. This one is the best so far, but it still has issues, but they might not matter too much.

I haven't been very active here as I have been really frustrated with finding good textures that fit my scene. I saw that Allegorithmic finally made a Linux version of Substance Designer and Painter. Combine that with their awesome subscription "Substance Live" where you pay $20 monthly until you have the software payed off and then you own it, I just couldn't pass it up. :D

So I have been delving into the software which is very deep, especially Designer. I have been testing it with some artifacts you might find in an attic, like a hammer:

Lots of fun, and this allows me to custom build the textures I need without spending a ton of time and money finding the right textures. The hammer was textured with the default substances that come with the software and others from the substance source site.

Just about texturing, I recently found another product from Allegorithmic called B2M that work so well to properly define physical tailored textures.
Very good looking results with few hours training.
Hope it helps..

Thanks, unfortunately I can't use B2M as it's Windows only and I run on Linux. The good news is that they are rolling all that B2M does into Designer, so I should be good then. :)

I'm hoping to start working on this project again, now that winter is here in Alaska I should have a lot more time to work on it.
