Portal? and light into building

hi

as i understand, i should use portals to support lightning in interior renders.

i have therefore created a face in front the window, with the portal material.
i have then hidden the glass - just in case..

but it seems that the portal face prevents the sun to shine through the portal face :-/

have i misunderstood something or done something wrong - or does it simply not work?

thanks

Hi, Jorgensen.

Haven't used portals for a while, so I checked this (by building simple scene in SU & imported into Standalone) consisting of a box + portal in the opening area.

all You need is to make sure that the face of that portal would be into interior. Make sure that You a plane (single side object, not dual place, sort of volume without thickness).

Let me know if You would still have problems & we can try to figure out why it's not working on Your side.

Hi,
portals are a bit different in Octane, compared with other render. The portal is used to help the paths to go outside and clean faster the image, not used to bring more light inside a room.
My suggestion is to change the portal material with a diffuse emitter, and 0 opacity. In this way you will bring more light inside the room, and you can better control the effect.
