Does the plugin support proxy?
unsure in what way you are referring to proxies. What functionality are you specifically looking for?

Paul

Right. There are 2 types of proxies I'm interested in:

1st - ability to load ocs/orbx scenes (created in the standalone) as proxies
2nd - modo proxy visible in octane plugin https://help.thefoundry.co.uk/modo/901/ ... proxy.html
3090, Titan, Quadro, Xeon Scalable Supermicro, 768GB RAM; Sketchup Pro, Classical Architecture.
Custom alloy powder coated laser cut cases, Autodesk metal-sheet 3D modelling.

The Modo plugin does not do this. I think the only plugin with this capability is the Nuke plugin.

2nd - modo proxy visible in octane plugin https://help.thefoundry.co.uk/modo/901/ ... proxy.html
This is supported by the plugin, however I doubt anyone is using the Modo proxy functionality - so it has had limited if any testing. From memory it will not render the subd vertices (only the cage), unless you enable the Modo Render Cache (check the manual for limitations with this approach - https://docs.otoy.com/manuals/products/modo/v3/modo901-specifics/).

Thanks Paul,

Sketchup does it too - right click on an object and link an external ocs file to it. It would be a great add-on to the modo plugin ;)

Yes, this would be an excellent feature. Most of my flow is based on ocs/orbx pickup.

Read the conversation between smicha and face_off, and you talked about Modo Proxys and face_off did mention that no-one used em. I would love to ask Why, and what do they use instead?

I just don't hear of people using Modo Proxy Mesh items that often (they have traditionally been buggy in Modo - which perhaps put people off). OCS and ORBX proxies are supported in the latest version of the plugin.

I was just about to ask you guys what is the best and most efficient way of using external lxo files without a need of pasting geometry. Proxy modo system is great. Any other methods?

I haven't experimented enough with this - sorry. However one way you could handle this is to open the external lxo file and export to ORBX, and then use that ORBX file as a proxy. But the plugin should pick up Modo proxy item geometry too - but it's not something that has had a lot of testing. Turning ON the Use Modo Render Cache setting may help with rendering proxy geometry (so try both ON and OFF).
