Hi! This is the first stable release of the OctaneRender™ 3.0 for LightWave™ plugin. This 3.00.20.0 release is available for Lightwave 10.1, 11.6 and 2015.3 Windows x64 and OSX.

Of course, this is just the beginning of the v3 development cycle and there is more to come ;)


New features

Licenses
To run 3.00 you need a v3 license. You can still run the 3.00 alpha and beta versions with a v2 license until the end of May. The current plan is that 3.00 alpha and beta versions will stop working on 1st June 2016. If the roll-out of non-beta 3.00 versions for all plugins that had a 3.00 beta version takes longer than expected we will extend this grace period.

With v3 licenses you can still use 1.xx and 2.xx versions of Octane, but v3 licenses cannot be deactivated via the OctaneLive web interface anymore, since they will be deactivated automatically by closing Octane or by signing out an offline authentication.

CUDA requirements
Due to a CUDA compiler bug we had to switch to CUDA 7.5, which means on Windows and Linux you may need to update your NVIDIA graphics driver to a current version which supports at least CUDA 7.5. On Mac OSX you may have to update the CUDA driver for Mac to a current version supporting at least CUDA 7.5.

Known issues and limitations
We noticed that deep pixel rendering crashes the render kernels on Maxwell GPUs (compute model 5.x) if the scene contains volumes. We are still investigating, but it looks like a CUDA compiler bug. If it's a compiler issue, we will try to work around it, but it might take a while until we have found a solution for the issue. Also in the LightWave plugin we have an issue with the LiveDB materials window on OSX, that we are investigating.

How to install the plugin
- (Only for Windows) Remove all the old Octane plugin 2.2 files (octane.dll, octane.dat and the .p plugin file), or add a new LightWave installation to your system to test Octane 3.0
- (Only for Windows) Copy the octane.dll, tbb.dll and octane.dat files into you install Lightwave/bin directory. You must overwrite the LightWave tbb.dll file.
- Add the plugin to the Lightwave Layout.
- Install the custom menu bar to get access to the Octane features.

I'm struggling to get this up and running - first time I've hit a problem with a LW Octane plugin install. The attachment shows the error when I click any button in the Octane tab in 2015.3 (Windows). I cleared out the previous version too.

It seems that you are mixing old Octane.dll/.dat files with the new plugin .p file. Can you please check again that the plugin and the Octane.dll/.dat files that you have in your system are all updated from the production build .zip file?

I've just jumped to V3 version :

BIG CRASH when validating the "enable plugin" menu (see attached ).

I've installed the right plugin version and DLLs (x64 win on windows 8.1 64bits) ), have desactivated the V2 version and activated the standalone V3 before. In lightwave , the v2 version was properly uninstalled before installing .p and DLL of the V3...

i've reboot my computer, tried again, but still direct crashes ... (the alpha version, some monthes ago, worked without any problem...)

Please help !

Can you please set the Layout alert level to "High" and try again? You should get some information windows about the plugin initialization system. Please let me know at what point the plugin crash.
