render at spherical pano, 6144x3072, in each eye, with post. Then bring the each eye back into Octane and save as cube map. Combine the two in PS and that will work - but you will render 30% more doing so.

tried that and there is some serious quality loss. better would be to render spherical panos in double resolution...
dont know how to face that post effects problem.

I think we need to fix this in the engine then. Cube map format was thought up by Carmack. It takes less render time, space and has fewer distortions when projected back in VR. There is a filter you can use when sampling them that also gives higher quality visials than spherical panos. The orbx app can play back 4:1 stereo panos too.

Great. Because a good amount of post-effects will increase the reslism of VR scenes massively. Most prominenrly, when the sun is visible directly.

Yeah my dream come true would be to have some post effects working in VR. Found a while ago, taht using them subtly might add quite a bit for shots that You don't need to touch them after Octane at all.

..the problem with CG images that they are too sharp in most cases..-photography itself is more or less flawed with issues like noise, lack of sharpness, bit of bloom etc..once You render too long..& all the sharpness comes - that's too perfect..

as mentioned in other thread..physically correct doesn't automaticaly mean visualy pleasing..& thus having some side effects would be nice =) but Yeah, they will definatelly get overused..like spices in the hands newly cooked "chef" (amatuer)..
