ORBX on DK2

I'm having a hard time understanding Otoy's adventures and spaghetti marketing. I would like to see at least one of what has been buzzed on twitter and other channels for months. I thought it was something from the future (for the lack of any image), but now there's a contest already? Here's what I think I understood:
- OculusVR is OctaneRender running on the cloud (wasn't it X.IO, amazon cloud AMI or something like that?). But why is it called VR?
- I could use OctaneRender/VR to output .orbx files that would be seen only on a ORBX or Oculus player.
- ORBX is a panorama/video player only accessible on GearVR?
- I have no idea if that .ORBX is pre-rendered 2d image with fake paralaxe or what. I have no idea what VR panorama/videos are. How can it solve stereo and rotation of head?
- I could package .orbx without rendering, so I suppose orbx is the scene. Then I suppose it's rendered in realtime only from the cloud or what? Packaging have no options, camera to set or whatever.

I'm a big fan of Octane Render, but I'm really confused on what Otoy is trying to make happen with VR. Can I experience anything with a DK2 or is it a GearVR thing only?

This pretty much sums up all my feelings and questions. When I look at the Otoy website and try to understand - I feel like I'm retarded.

+1 on those questions. We're wanting to use it at work and we ordered an Occulus DK2 and come to find out it may not work with that set? Will it support that set in future or is it just going to be the gearVR?

Me three. I feel retarded trying to comprehend what OTOY is doing.

Additionally, I downloaded the OSX version of the OctaneVR app, and it simply won't launch. Something about not being supported on the OS (Yosemite 10.2).

Durrr.

+1 same here. Fantastic products, confusing marketing. And I've been using octane since the beta and followed the development closely. Some guides/tutorials would be helpful.

You have two options if you already own Octane (or downloaded OctaneVR which is a free 90 day version for news users )

1) PC
- Render a spherical panorama. View it on the DK2 using any 360 image viewer

2) GearVR
- Render a stereo cube map, turn off post effects, make sure the image is 18432x1536
- Download our app, let is download some samples
- copy your image into the ORBX folder to view

Right now we are supporting rendering images of VR images files (and animation) . ORBX media files, baked FBX and light fields are version 3 feature.

The live demo on the page is to give new users the chance to play with Octane immediately. The be clear, OctaneVR is identical to OctaneRender 2.23 just without networking, > 2GPU support, and it has a 90 day free licence.

I hope this helps clarify a few things. Please let me know if you have more questions.

I thought it was possible to integrate authoring within Octane standalone....
I want to create walkthroughs with hotspots, insert looped video into the panoramas, insert positional audio, etc.
I don't understand why we need Octane VR and don't Panotour Pro.

Will it support camera-on-a-spline type animations at any point? The idea here is a VR tour to where the camera is bound to a path and the user is able to look around the environment. From what you say it sounds like you're only able to "explore" a still image from a standing fixed point in the environment with anything other than a gearVR, is that correct?
