OctaneRender® for 3ds max® v2.05a (Updated)

Main changes since version 2.04

  • Exposure is now independent of the gamma. I.e. changing gamma does not change the whitepoint anymore.
  • Fixed shading artifacts on objects with a lot of deformation motion blur with heavily rotating triangles, like waving flags.
  • Fixed a rounded edges issue with the vertex order of triangles.
  • Fixed incorrect update of emitter data, causing the kernels to crash in some cases.
  • Fixed crash when applying a modifier on movable proxy object.
  • Fixed noisy material preview.

Good changes! Rounded edges do look cleaner now. Also I like the change to gamma, feels more natural to toy around with.

Something not crucial I noticed is in the material preview window, the material spheres are darker and noisey. Perhaps it has to do with the new gamma/exposure

Yes, I screwed that up. Will be fixed with the next version.

Turning off object shadow casting is not working with HDR env.
Is it normal?

Sorry I can't help Andrey with the 3ds max plugin (don't know anything about 3ds max). And I think with Andrey you've got one of the best 3ds max plugin you can get. So please show some patience and be aware that he is also working on Octane itself.

The bug above affected Standalone and SDK 2.05.1. It got introduced with the gamma changes of 2.05 and which I subsequently reverted in 2.05.1, but where I made a small mistake. A newer SDK is out already and Andrey will release an update of the plugin as soon as possible. Apologies for the hassle.

double check?

why I can't change anymore hue random colors on hair?
In 2.01 I was able to tweak some material parameters directly within the Max hair plugin. Now I can't.
How to modify the tips color from the material editor?

Any plan to include the stereo output feature in the next release?
