Guys, You don't read forum? ontop of your page there is 'view active topics' - about hardware here is a lot of talks (active) and there is benchmark thread already =) take a look.

pluss there was bench competition, and there are scene made to have a program that will test and gather all the data without need of copy pasting Your results into forum.

Although this might not fit in here was wondering if it would make sense taking the GTX570 that I got lying around (changed to a GTX 760 a while ago because of Octane) and add it to my System...

Would it actually add to the render performance that my 760 is providing right now ?

It should ... asfaik, you can use any CUDA capable card in octane ... it's not like in games, where you SLI them.

Mmmhhh....worth considering then...
I'll probably need a beefier apu though to handle that .

GTX570 is not so bad, it was based on gf110 chip, as adding it to GTX760 I beleive these two working together should cut Your render times in half =) but in some scenes You'll hit ceilings of vram faster..because if You use both of them Octane will see lower amount of vram from 570 that I believe was 1.25GB or 2.5GB(depending on Your model)..

Yeah...see that was exactly the reason why I switched to a GTX 760 with 4GB vram because I had/have the GTX570 with only 1.25GB of ram.

Doesn't the VR add up the more cards you have installed? Always been wondering about that...

I went from a single GTX 680 to a dual Titan setup and speed seemed to go up more than 6-7 times, but that is only my impression because I did not benchmark it and I went to a newer and faster system as well.
Reason for the titan was memory and speed. I could get in 2 Titans plus a quadro k2000 and getting an equivalend with 600 or 700 series if cards would have been difficult giving the heating problems and slot arrangements.

I had hoped that I would get more texture slots, but that has not been the case which was a disappointment.
The additional memory was very welcome. I no longer need to convert highres bump maps to lowres ones and can render these in higher resolution

I did consider waiting for the new 800 series, but I decided not to wait since there is no indication about when the card models I need (memory, gpu cores) will be available.

Overall I am very happy with the new speed this gives me.

DUAL Titan ???? Holy cow... that would seriously break my bank ^^
With my current Setup (singe GTX 760 4GB) I never had to compress any texture, bump or specular maps. I'm actually quite happy with my setup as it is right now...

There's just situations like this morning when I was setting up a complex interior scene with a lot of glossy / specular materials (also a V4 with SSS on her) when the rendering speed drops to something like 0.65 s/p and I have to leave it rendering over the day. And that is even while having optimmized all the materials good scene lighting and use of the PMC kernel...

I guess it's just complaining on a VERY high niveau considering how long rendering took at a comparable quality with FireFly. But if you know that 200-300 bucks can potentially half your rendering times or make it even faster then that...well the temptation is certainy there ;)

I do very large scenes, lots of figures and lots of props.
I ran into the 4GB limitation with some DAZ props (example Jack Tomalin) because some of those props use up to a 100 texture and 100 bump maps. Even after removing the out of camera props and lots of bump maps you will still end up with 50 bump and texture maps and with each of them 4kx4k you are eating up memory fast. Add to that 5 or 6 clothed figures and you run into your limits

Of course I can redo the materials in Octane, but some of it is not straightforward and there are very many material zones which makes it a very tedious job. So if I can avoid that work by using a 6GB videocard I will be glad to do that

Yeah, I see what you're saying here.
I would probably have to break up a scene like that in many seperate render runs in order to stay within my limits.

I guess it really all depends on how you know how to make things possbile despite some obvious limitations. Or you "buy" yourself out of it by investing in beefier hardware to set the bar higher.
