I recommend you wait a few weeks (if all goes according to schedule) - with the launch of OctaneCloud, you will get a one click launch of your own Amazon VM with a GPU for $19/month (300 minutes + 100 GB HD) without having to be an AWS developer or go through the fairly technical steps need to set up the Amazon AMI. Additional time will be ~$1/hr (depending on the region), and additional storage will be about 10c/GB.

You want to create an instance by select Launch Instance, then do a slect from AMI Marketplace, type ORBX. Then select the Autodesk version. Once you are happy with that you then need to select the type of instance, you want to to choose the GPU category, and in there, there is only one choice G2. From then on should be self explanatory

Timeour here as well. RDP works, GUID shows up in task manager.
doing wmic PROCESS get Caption,Commandline | FIND "GUID=" in the commmand line throws the error File not found - PROCESS get Caption - Alias not found.

Also, Octane isn't installed at all inside MAX?

The full version of the standalone can be launched in AMI - it doesn't need to be installed. But this not the case with plug-ins at the moment. We'll be implementing this mechanism for the plug-ins down the line

For now, to use full version of the the max plug-in, you need to install your own SA and plug-in license just as with a local machine. Also note that this is a trial version of Max. Our plan is to get the cloud licensed plug-ins auto installed once we see what the final version of Max without the trial looks like (that is up to Autodesk, not us).
