@Radiance im using Moment of Inspiration 3D developed by one man Michael Gibson (previous Rhino dev)

Here's the website http://moi3d.com/
Its currently in v2 beta. License is 195$ for v1 with access to v2 beta.
Its very powerfull and a joy to use. Its like skecthup but for Nurbs.

edit: Ive made a single Topic for all the meshes im working on viewtopic.php?f=9&t=109

Here's a complex model ive done with it http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=2804.1 (3DM file included)
And here's other works http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=3173.1

don't go for millions of polies, but hundreds :)
note that SSS is not planned for v1.0 so it will take a while before it's implemented.

Yep Im not going to make millions :) Maybe a poly every 3° and no poly smaller than 5mm
I know that SSS is not planned for v1.0 but its very important to build the material scene as if SSS was already here.

Here's a first preview, camera angle is actually centered to sphere normals.
Every round surface is in rounded surface class (not G1 / G2 or G3) because rounded is the most common type of surfaces.

Here's a little update, what do you think ? Improvements ?

Update: Here's a little scene for glass / Subsurface materials

I uploaded OBJ of both those objects at 3° angle per polygon in NGONS
I got some modifications to do I think but you can already download these and see if everything works.
download here -> http://rapidshare.com/files/335898429/o ... re_sss.rar

What is needed is someone to make UV, make a ground plane with a grid, and make an "octane render" sticker on the sphere.
No offence, but yet another rip off of Maxwell test object!! Is it not possible for people to produce something new?

Also someone should build the scene into Octane specially with good lighting.

The thing about the Maxwell test scene is that it's calibrated. You're not going to be able to do this yet with what I've seen of the demo.

If you want help with a test object, or modification etc with this one, count me in.

Tim.
