Render Speed

Would like to know what contributes to render speeds.

just seems that each time i do a render it gets slower and slower. i did one a few days back with a fairly detailed car and a victoria figure with SSS etc, rendering at 3840 x 2160 resolution and it was rendering at between 4 and 5 msamples/sec. this scene had 12 emitters in it.

i am currently rendering another image that is just a portrait on a textured background, portrait of the same figure mentioned above, with only 2 emitters, at 3000 x 2250 resolution. this one is only rendering at 1.5 msamples/sec

curious as to why a much simpler image is taking so much longer

cheers

Is the 2nd render closer to the figure? As you get closer to the texture it has to show more detail would be my guess.

This is true, closer shots like face ect renders much slower. especially when using things like sss and specularity...
