Can a Emitter be focused? Tweet

I Am wondering if one can create a Emiter and have it focused, like instead of spreading the light you can almost direct it as to create a laser like effect?

But beware .. I almost had a meltdown, with getting/finding a right set up
Scale, distribution, orientation, power ... gwarrrrr ... not my best memories .. but once you hit it right, the outcome will/can be very! nice.

Pls refer to the IES section (in the Revit manual) for relevant info on this. http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Revit/?page_id=79. From memory, the actual direction of the emitter is not relevant to the direction of the IES light - use the "orientation" instead. By default (orientation - 0, 0, 0) the light points straight down.

I think Reality had some prop lights that basically used black primitives to direct the light. They looked much more fancy but if you put an emitter sphere inside a black box that had one side missing, you could reshape the box to direct the light. Works well for off-scene, but not on-scene.

Edit: These IES lights are nifty!

IES lights give a much better render result than using light boxes, so I recommend going with those.
