Pathtracing and Grainy

After 5 minutes of rendering, the image is still grainy.

I have searched through the forum, and tried all the recommendations. I know Direct light will cure it, but I need to render in Pathtracing as it has a more realistic look. Here is what I have tried.

> Increase Caustic blur to 1
> Hotpixel to 0
> Increased IBL power
> Lowered Maxdepth to 4
> Lowered Maxsamples to 8000

Are there any other tweeks I can make to get rid of grainyness?

Thanks.
Randall.

There are some other ideas at http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Poser/?page_id=210. The biggest culprit seems to be small emitters, or emitters with too many polys. If you post a sample of your scene, it might give a better indication of the graininess cause.

it depends by thousands of factors:

closed spaces without apertures
tiny light with many polygons + large lights
use massive of ies emitters
not illuminated areas, too few bounces or too many
too many glossy materials
not well balanced samples for each light/emitter
slow gpus

I am only using IBL light. No emitters. No glossy surfaces. I can't post an image as it is porn and against forum rules. I will look at other thread you posted. If any other ideas come to mind, please post. Thanks.

Without seeing a sample it is very hard to determine what is causing the graininess. Is the light illuminating the scene coming through glass before hitting the objects being lit? Is the whole render grainy, or just one part?

No, nothing blocking the scene, no light passing through glass or anything. Whole picture is grainy. Just seems to take 6 minutes to just get past the grainy look. Seems a bit long. Wonder if it is because I am use hdr files for IBL, instead of jpg for IBL? Do you recommend one or the other? JPG seems to be a bit better with the grainy look, but not much. I would think with my card, the grainy look would be gone sooner.

HDR images are a bit tricky to set up.
I have to lower the Gamma from 2.2 to 1.5 or even lower of the Environment material (I use 3dmax but there will be some setting in your app maybe too).
Also lowering the ISO can help if your image gets flooded by high orange loooking grain.

Sent me an image or the HDR too so I can take a look. I don't care about porn or not.
