We are happy to announce the release of OctaneRender™ Standalone 1.20.
Main changes since 1.10
Rendering
- Significantly improved rendering performance
- Added architectural glass option
- Volumetric fog and light shafts
- Correct behavior when objects with specular materials intersect (useful for liquids in glass)
- Customizable sky/sunset color and sun size
- Added dirt texture
- Added panoramic cameras (spherical and cylindrical)
- Added lens distortion to thin lens camera
- Added customizable bokeh DOF to thin lens camera
- Added ray-traced wireframe mode
- Improved bump/normal mapping
- Fixed black edges on poorly triangulated geometry with glossy materials
- Added PMC kernel option "parallelism" which causes the kernel to "focus" more on caustics
- Bump mapping has been inverted (to the behavior common to all other 3D apps), which means that you may have to invert bump maps in old projects. We updated the materials in the LiveDB to match the new bump behaviour.
User Interface
- Added background image support to render viewport
- Improved node graph navigation
- Added render priority (to improve UI responsiveness), which can be activated on individual GPUs
- Reduced clutter in outliner and node inspector
- Added toggle button to macro nodes in the node inspector which lets you switch between input pins and the output pin
- Added camera presets (front/back/left/right/... views)
Other
- Multi-threaded scene compilation
- Improved OBJ file parser
Here is a short video showing some of these changes in action:
Changes since 1.18
- Fixed crash when you were connecting an input node to the brightness scale pin of a color correction node
- Fixed incorrect import of min/max settings of some node pins
- Fixed rare crash caused by the SpaceMouse event handling in Octane
- Added a stop button, which will completely stop rendering and release all resources on all GPUs and reset the viewport
- Top view has North pointing upwards and the other views are derived from this. As a consequence most of the other views are flipped compared to previous releases.
- Fixed various crashes caused by unusual node setups
- Update from 15/7/2013: Fixed loading of macros that are fully nested
- Update from 15/7/2013: Fixed a crash when an old OCS file gets loaded that links to an OBJ file that has changed materials
Limitations on old GPUs
- We had to drop the support of GPUs with compute capability 1.0
- The PMC kernel and the matte material don't work on old graphics cards with compute capability < 2.0 (e.g. GTX 2xx)
