Hi everyone,

we're very proud to announce the availability of a stable version of Octane Render 1.20, which comes with a large number of exciting features as shown in the video below:

New features since Octane 1.10

- Multi-threaded scene compiling
- Significantly improved rendering performance
- Architectural glass
- Volumetric fog and lightshafts
- Customizeable sky/sunset color and sun size
- Background image support in the viewport
- Dirt texture
- Panoramic cameras (spherical and cylindrical)
- Customizeable bokeh DOF
- Lens distortion
- Raytraced wireframe mode
- Improved nodegraph navigation
- Camera presets (front, back, top, bottom, left, right)
- Render priority (provides smoother UI)

Licensed customers can download the new release in the Downloads section of the Customer Area (log in required) and can also find more details about this release in the Commercial Product News & Releases forum.

The OctaneRender 1.20 demo version will be available soon.

btw: Is it of use for speed when installing Program Files\OTOY\OctaneRender 1.20 on a ssd harddisk?

Can someone please explain to me how to create the fog effect/volumetric light to achieve the same effect shown in the picture above? (forest with sunrays and fog).

I've tried using the "fade shadows" option on a specular material...nothing happens..
Even in a basic setup with a room & a window I couldn't get it done..

Help please :) and thank you in advance!

This will only speed up Octane launching as far as I know. Once it starts to render, you should see zero difference compared to a normal HDD.
It may also speed up loading scene objects/materials. If it does, it may only do it on the first time it is loaded since it should then be cached in RAM/VRAM anyway (not totally sure how it all works). So, if you use an exporter for an animation, it will need to load Octane once for each frame, resulting in several hundred launches for Octane. It may speed up each launch, resulting in a much faster animation render time, but it may only speed up the first instance, then it becomes cached and you see no speed increase. Don't know for sure though.
