Hi everyone,

Refractive Software LTD is proud to announce the availability of version 1 beta2.1 final of Octane Render.
This release is for PC's running MS Windows, Apple Mac's running Leopard or Snow Leopard or Linux Systems.

Important note regarding Multi-GPU Support
We have decided to delay our multi-gpu implementation to the soon following 2.2 update.

This release archive contains a complete illustrated PDF Manual of the software.
We recommend new users to read it carefully.

After installation, the software will ask your license key, please use the same key you used for beta1/2.
You do not need to send us a new activation request email.

- Improved fermi architecture optimization, nearly double speedup. (4 MegaSamples/sec on the benchmark scene)
- fixed CMD+left click for multi material picking on mac OS X
- fixed incorrect camera raster horizontal position issue
- fixed issue when closing the application and not asking to save/cancel
- Command shortcuts added for Opening (CTRL/CMD O - open), New (CTRL/CMD N - new), Save (CTRL/CMD S - save)

- material and autofocus picking on different resolutions and after panning/zooming the image now works correctly
- more stability when changing render resolution while rendering
- bottom part of image is correctly displayed when navigating with supersampling
- roughness of glossy materials can go lower than min 40, and does'nt produce fireflies anymore
- bump mapping sampling of large maps is corrected.
- vignetting does'nt dissolve image gamma on edges anymore (eg works in HDR space)
- linux version can now read .PNG image file format
- fixed issue with diffuse transmission being connected by default on diffuse materials giving incorrect shading
- render hour timer issue is fixed.
- loading of files with non minor case .obj is fixed
- 16bpp grayscale images and 32bpp HDR grayscale images are now working on all platforms

Known Issues and Limitations

Code: Select all
- No Import of RenderMan RIB files.
- No MLT Sampling, this means some scenes present 'fireflies' eg bright pixels/dots,
which are a natural side effect of unbiased algorithms.
The commercial versions of Octane Render will feature MLT and other options which take care of this issue.

RIB, Collada and MLT will be made available in the next beta3.

Please note that this release is an incremental update towards the complete v1.0 with all planned features as on our product page.

Please post your experiences and possible issues with this release candidate in this thread.
Your help is much appreciated.

Yours,
The Octane Render Team

I tried the final beta2.1 version in linux, and exits with this error (demo and commercial):

octane: symbol lookup error: ./octane: undefined symbol: cudaFuncSetCacheConfig

Cheers

great, another disaster :)
does the device manager by any chance report you have a compute model 2.0 card ?

this is very strange, that function is for fermi cards and it is only run when you actually have a compute 2.0 model card.
there must be a bug in the linux cuda 3.0 runtime then, it seems to report your card internally as a 2.0 (eg fermi) and tries to do the new fermi optimizations on it.

For me there is no problem waiting, the RC1 works well.
Peacefully and to see if someone else reports it.
Thank you very much radiance.
