Proper Isometric Camera

Hi guys,

Is there any way to get a PROPER isometric camera inside Octane? The workaround with 45 degree for H and -35.264 for P seems to work on the first look, but when you compare it to the build in isometric camera its pretty off. Please see attached comparison of the Viewport and the renderview and you'll see what I mean.

I searched for an OSL Script but wasn't lucky finding one.

This is such a crucial feature and I really don't wanna change the render engine just because of this.

Thanks for any help. :)

Hi KeeWe,
could you share an example scene with a Cube instead of the model?

ciao Beppe

Hi bepe,

Sure, here you go:

The RAR contains two files. 02 is with some different Camera Settings which seem to achieve a closer match.

For comparison: Arnold gives a perfect match out of the box by setting the camera to parallel which allows a simple scaling of the scene by just using the zoom value inside the camera.

To get the proper isometric effect, you should set your Octane camera type to Universal, and the camera mode to Orthographic and enable the orthographic toggle underneath the menu. Set the Cinema camera projection to Camera Object > Object tab > Projection menu: Parallel. The results in Live Viewer will match that of your Cinema viewport. You may need to tweak the values in that tab, such as the Zoom value.

That's great! I've been struggling with isometric scenes to get a proper match between LV and viewport. Thank you!
This deserves to be included in the documentation, unless it already is and I managed to completely miss it. :)

Thanks, this seems to do the trick, and I almost got it via trying. :D

Maybe a preset would be possible? A simple button for the isometric camera would come in pretty handy... especially months from today.

Ahmet, any chance for such a thing?

I'm not in to this right now, but It's not perfectly obtainable if I can remember well. Tried a few times in the past for an auto process. I can check it again when I find a time. Send me a working example scene please

I'm gonna double check with C4D and Arnold, I hope its exactly the same. If so, I'm gonna send you the scene. Though I just did what jayroth suggested...

I need an approved solution before diving to something.

Just tested the whole thing... looks like Octane just can't get it right. Arnold recreates the Viewport perfectly, Octane is off as soon as you render it. We would probbably get away with it in the final project, but animating is kinda tricky when your safe zones are useless. Camera is the same, only the camera tag is different.

I just don't get it how this feature is not production ready in the year 2021...
