What is the right computer for Octane Render

Hi to the Forum,

I currently have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) with the following specifications:

Processor 3.1 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Graphics Radeon Pro 560 4 GB / Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB

After doing much research I am not able to do any upgrades to my laptop due to the fact that the graphics card is embedded to the motherboard and upgrade means replacing the motherboard. I need advice on what would be the best MacBook Pro that will be able to handle the full render capacity with speed. Also, I might consider changing just the motherboard and if there is advice on that topic I would be very thankful.

Thank you.

Hi Joe,
hold on, very soon you will be able to use OctaneRender on any Mac with both AMD or Intel or Apple GPU, and also interact with other PCs in the LAN for Network rendering, or use eGPU boxes via Thunderbolt 3 and AMD GPU inside, but without need of custom scripts, and directly and natively in Catalina.

The OctaneX Beta program has already started, so it is closed now, bu we are working on it:

Sorry, this discussion is almost three years old.

Beta program is closed, and OctaneX now works only on Apple Silicon M1/M2/M3, but can also Network render with CUDA PC machines.

on ultra c4d 2024 with 2023.1 R4 ...

Hi,

unfortunately OctaneX PR14 is based on old 2020.1.5 SDK, so it is normal to have not the same result in 2023.1.

A thing you could try is to use the Compatibility mode popup in Kernel and materials of 2023.1 versions, now we are at 2023.1-R7:
https://render.otoy.com/plugindownloads ... R7_OSX.zip

And it is not possible to use Intel/AMD macs if not with PR14.

ciao,
Beppe

What specific challenges are you facing in rendering with your Mac Pro, and have you considered trying the Compatibility mode in Octane 2023.1-R7 to address the issue?
