Hi

We have just switched to PC and are testing out C4D and Octane.

On Windows 10 and still on R16.

We are experiencing crashes when performing basic functions. Report below.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thx

J

Hi,
which version of c4doctane plugin have you installed exactly?
Please, try with the latest 3.08.1-R4 version:

We are on the latest one here https://render.otoy.com/account/download_archive.php?

Is there a difference?

I can see the two posts were both on 20th April but one in the morning and one in the evening.

Thanks :)

Hi,
unfortunately the Downloads section has not been updated with the latests versions.
Please, download and install 3.08.1-R4, from the following link, depending on the license type and operating system:

Hey Beppe, I am getting the same error as mentioned above. I attached the bug report below, but the last two items in the bug report are this:
[09:39:19] CRITICAL: Stop: Degenerated Ngon Creation, an Ngon must have at least 5 vertices. [ngonbase.cpp(1450)]
[09:39:29] CRITICAL: Stop [int_customgui_description.cpp(5526)]

I had a file that I was able to work on no problem, then it crashed upon render. Now, whenever I try to open the file, without even activating the Live Preview and trying to render, just having the file open causes it to crash after about 10 seconds. The same now retroactively is happening to older versions of the same file so I can't open those either for more than a few seconds. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it seems impossible to fix a problem with a file when just opening it causes it to crash. I just upgraded to the latest version of Octane, 2020. If there's anything else I can do then I'm all ears.
Best,
Justin

This is a very old topic and absolutely different problem and not a same error. Here I see Octane.dll crash. It can be about a BUG on core or OUT OF VRAM/etc...
Did you try different scenes to render? And did you try to CLEAN texCache by using "Empty texCache" command?
Did you install just related plugin by deleting unnecessary *.cdl64 and *.xdl64 files?

Hey sorry if its not the same error, I just saw the Degenerated NGON comment repeated in the bug report at the end and assumed it was similar.

A. Yes I tried different scenes to render. They occasionally also crash despite working fine previously. Currently the other scenes are operational and it is only the scene I submitted about below that is crashing, but at some point yesterday I got crashes on other scenes as well. The sporadic nature of the problem makes it confusing to isolate.
B. How do I execute the Empty texCache command? That sounds promising
C. Yes, I'm running R21 and only the R21 .xdl64 files are in the plugins folder.

I appreciate the quick reply!
Best,
Justin

Hi Justin,
you can go to c4doctane settings/Other panel. and press the Empty texCache button.
From 2020.1-R2, you can find the Empty TexCache command also in Live VIew menu Materials:
