360° VR Export with Octane VR

Hi guys,

I'm currently working on a school project where I try to translate music into visuals effects, so that users can experience that through 360° VR motions. And I need to export that into a VR motion for an iPad resolution (I'll show my work from an iPad). I'd like to get full rez motion on my iPad that I can scroll in to explore my scene at 360°.
So, I have my scene, with a camera in the middle of it, the music turns on and everything's animated. Well, so far so good !

The thing is, I tried changing the settings of my camera from thinlens to panoramic, but I got weird results (like black bars surrounding my scene : examples in the WeTransfer link). I also tried changing the resolution of the export in the C4D Export tab, but it didn't work either. I've watched and read a lot of tutorials on how to export C4D Octane scenes in VR, but none of them helped me solve my problem.
Here is the link to the examples et the C4D Octane VR file : https://we.tl/nwDwMHCO2w
I hope it helps ! :)

Can you guys help me out with this, please ?

Thank you very much in advance,
Rémy

Hi,
you need to set the Octane Camera to Panoramic mode, and change the aspect ratio in the Output settings to 2:1:

Please, avoid to save a movie file directly, but use a series of png, or whatever, while rendering animations.
Also note that the Post effect can give you issues at the seam, so try to rotate the camera in order to always have pure black in both borders, if possible.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your answer, it worked perfectly !
Yeah, I sure need to take this habit not to save as a movie file ...

I just have a problem reading the video. I don't really know how to convert the 360° video that I now have in a VR video which I can scroll in, for example.
I obviously tried exporting it into some traditionnal video readers like VLC, but with no surprise, it didn't work.
I know it isn't an Octane problem anymore, but do you know any way to do that, may be ?

Thank you again for your fast answer,
Have a nice day,

Rémy

Hi,

Thanks for the link, I'll give it a try as soon as I have a better render than the one I have right now !

Have a nice day,
