I am using Octane for 2D renders since a long time. Now I want to dive into VR.
My question rgd. Octane VR is: is it just the possibility to render 360° images via panoramic camera or is there more to explore like rendering scenes where the user is able to walk around within 3D space as eg. it is possible in Unreal?

Hello Otoy Team,

anyone of you able to explain what OctaneVR is all about?

Would be great if someone could take a few minutes to make a point about this.

Thanks - Ron

Hi Ron,
there is no difference between OctaneRender and OctaneVR, with the exception of the different license system, and few limitations for OctaneVR like max 2x GPUs, no net render, and an always active internet connection.
The confusion comes from the fact that the subscription license scheme has been firstly tested with the free version used during the Metaverse competion, and was the first version with the Panoramic Cube map VR camera node. So when the subscription version was ready to be commercialized, the OctaneVR name remained, to distinguish between the two different license schemes.
For a more immersive VR experience, better to look at the recent Unity - Octane integration:
