Mac Pro 6,1 (Dyson) and Cinema 4D

Client already is a Mac Shop with 4x Dyson MacPro 6,1 machines. They are running v16 of Cinema 4D.
My idea was to install a PC with at least 2 Titan X GPUs but perhaps if the budget permits, install a big GPU workstation that will allow me to install up to 8 GPUs. And run Octane Render server on this machine.

Can I use the the MacPro 6,1 as a client machine to run C4D with the octane client license. Does the 'client" licensed machine need to have a cuda card it it? Is there any major speed penalty for running this way? Anything else I am missing? (I might be mis-using the names of server and client.)

Thanks
Doug

Hi Doug,
currently you need an internal CUDA capable GPU to start Octane, with the exception of the Blender integrated plugin:

The same functionality will be extended to Octane itself when OctaneEngine will be out, but we are not right there for now:

In the meanwhile, you could have a look at the eGPU solution by adding CUDA cards via Thunderbolt port to the Dyson Mac Pro:

There are some users on the forum that are successfully using this solution.
