Since I read today, that the Head of Marketing of the Vive left HTC and went to Magic Leap, because he was mind blown by how far their technology already got, we might already be nearer to AR than we think. If that´s so, VR would stay a niche product for gamers or specific applications. If AR is coming sooner, the broader masses will be using rather those glasses as they will have much more diverse applications that have a lot more relevance to the daily business.... But all we can do is speculate at the moment. Aslo price ranges will have a lot of impact. 2016 probably is not yet the year of other realities.
cheers.
Edit: the gaming industry is huge so it is not actually a niche. But what I meant is, that AR glasses will be worn by people walking in the streets, making displays obsolete... that is a much bigger impact than sitting at home and playing a game or whatching a movie in vr.
