So, I think I finally found success--quick question -- I know I delete the main .obj but what about the clothing and hair??? Do I leave those once I attach the alembic note to the materials?

Hi,
I am glad to hear that you have find the way to make it work :)
About clothes and hairs, if you have a moving character, you should export in alembic all the animated meshes, you can export them one by one or in one time... for the last case I have to change my script for handling of more than one obj node

Ah I see...thank you. I was so excited when it finally started working--but is has motion blur on it...and it looks blurry when it moves. Is there away to take the motion blur off--it seems to be automatic...
