Public API

Hello guys,

could it be is possible to integrate OctaneVR in some custom application?
As far as I know we can only use Lua scripting to control Octane, but I'm not sure that Lua gives us access to raw image output data for example.

Let's say we have a product with some variations (color, material, may be some geometry states like closed/open). We want to switch between different variations and visualize it on one power multi-gpu machine using Octane and then stream the output to laptop or even smartphone using web browser (but locally, without Octane cloud), is it possible?

Best regards,
akc

We will explore this for V3. With ORC, we already have a web APi to drive offline rendering, although it is only used internally. We are thinking about doing the same for a live Octane viewport, like what you get with the Octane VR Web demo.

Once both of those are more mature, we may then expose them as public web service APIs that are covered by the cost of usage regardless of what front end app/web page is using them.

Hello Goldorak,

thanks for your replay.

Does it mean we can expect this functionality in Octane 3 or it means that you'll start to explore this topic first after the Octane 3 is out?
P.S. I understand that you probably wont' promise anything about it, but may be you could reveal whether it is on the top or at the bottom of you to-do list.

Best regards,
akc

Not at the bottom, more in the middle, and realistically comes later in the 3.x to do list, once all major features are done and the devs can look at this with a finished API to work from.
