Question about stereo cubemaps

Hello,

I tried the ORBX media player on my Gear VR and I have to say this is amazing. One of the best uses for my Gear VR.

I would like to know if it is possible to view stereo cubemaps outside the ORBX media player application aswell ?

Let me explain what I'm trying to achieve here :

- I build an application for Gear VR that is actually a VR catalog (ex : for a swimming pool vendor)
- The user launches my application and is looking at a virtual book, he can turn pages, and stare at photos in the catalog
- When the user stares at a photo (ex : the XYZ model of the swimming pool vendor) he has the possibility to actually "enter" in the photo
- If the user wants to jump in the scene, boom.. he is "teleported" into the stereo cubemap which is essentially a 3D rendered scene with the XYZ swimming pool

Know what I mean ? But I need the experience to be all included in my own application, I dont want the user to be switched between my application and the ORBX media player everytime he wants to look at another model in the catalog.

I'm not sure if what I say makes much sense to you, but I'd appreciate an official answer to this please :)

Thank you very much!

Olivier

Good idea.

These hot spots have been discussed elsewhere and according to the devs there will be eventually proper tools to make these hot spot navigable images. Later on with light field your customer can walk around in your catalog and pick up stuff.

Hello ristoraven,

Sorry I am new to this, but what do you mean by hot spot ?

Thanks for the input, what I understand is that something is under development and should allow what I am asking for so that is good news :)

Regards

Olivier

Hot spot is a trigger point where you can look at in VR and it gives you a countdown before it changes your position or changes a scene.. You can do these already with Kolor panotour software, it doesn´t however support cubic renders.

So yes, what you are looking for is coming and more. Much more. :)

Awesome, this is exactly what I am looking for ! Any chance that you could redirect me to the post where a dev posted this information ? Or maybe a dev will see this post and can tell me where I can look at for further updates ?

Thanks again ! :)
