I'm pretty much OK doing an alpha build without OSL it doesn't really affect me day-to-day and I suspect the same is true for others here. I'm OK with waiting for round two for OSL.
Anyone else agree???

Everyone cares. So much work has been put into making Octane X happen on Metal. Apple has made it so AMD and Intel have drivers that actually work well enough with macOS metal to ship this product which is a great thing. For comparison, We are no where near that level of support yet on Windows/Linux support on these same AMD and intel GPUs for Octane Vulkan (which is also 100% done) . Nevertheless these Metal drivers still need more work before OSL works perfectly, which is why we are still in closed beta for a little bit longer.

I don't dispute the amount of work that has been put into making OctaneX work, and I'm both grateful and very excited about it. It just sounds like the one not pulling its weight is Apple – because it's probably not a priority – and I assume we're now looking at 10.15.6+ for a full release. The agonising wait continues, but I'm still looking forward to it, nonetheless.

WWDC 2020 ( Apple developers conference) is scheduled for 22 June. The beta timing I think is in line with a possible presentation of Octane X on that event...

I'm hoping for a WWDC announcement of a Mac Pro price reduction, or an iMac with enough grunt to run Octane nicely.

Some news about the beta-testing progress of OctaneX would be nice. Or an ETA for a the public beta. Or anything frankly.
