Buying new system

How would this system be for rendering with octane?

https://www.titancomputers.com/Titan-X499-OCTANE-Dual-Intel-Xeon-E5-2600-V4-CPU-p/x499-octane.htm?quote_id=1598

I'm not great with hardware so I have to go by what other people tell me.
Just wanted some input before I drop the cash.

Thanks for your time in advance!

Ridiculously overpriced in my opinion, if you order some parts yourself you can build a system for way over half the price that totally crushes this.

- Dual Xeon... why? Even a single Xeon.... if you are doing modeling it's likely not using multicore, and then it's actually tons slower than a regular CPU. I recommend an Intel 8700K or AMD 2700X instead.

- Quadro P5000, scores 145 in Octane bench for apparently $1500.... meanwhile for $1300 (https://www.evga.com/products/productli ... TX+2080+Ti) you can get a card that scores 306 in Octane bench... literally twice as powerful and that doesn't even include when OTOY gets the RTX to work (apparently 6X speedboost)

Single card benches: https://render.otoy.com/octanebench/res ... ingleGPU=1

No. I am not buying the system in the link. I was just using it to easily write down the components I was looking at.

So would four RTX 2080's be better then?

And again, forgive my ignorance. But one processor isnt worse than two? I should just get 1 processor at a higher speed over 2 at a lower speed?

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.

Would this:
Intel Xeon W-2133 Skylake 3.6GHz (3.9GHz TB) 140W 8.25MB L3 (6 Cores / 12 Threads)

be better than:
2x Intel Xeon Silver 4110 Processors 2.1GHz (3.0GHz Turbo Boost) 85W 11MB Cache 16 Cores (32 Threads Total)

Well you need to look at what you're going to be running first, I always optimise the specs so I have room for more GPU spending.

- What kind of modeling are you going to be doing? Not all programs can actually utilize multicore well (most not at all) so then your Xeon cost has higher price for lower performance compared to much cheaper gaming CPU which does very high clocks on single core (5 GHz!)
- 32 GB is good, no need for expensive ECC memory
- 1500W is a lot of power, one of my machines has 4x GTX 1080 Ti on 1600W... for reference
- Gettings GPUs with different VRAM amount is bad, now the one with 11 GB will not utilize it properly as the 8 GB card will set the limit for the scenes you are making.

Hope that helps, you might want to post in the Octane Facebook group for more in-depth advice
