any reason why 3.08 has issues importing obj that earlier versions did not? when i try to import obj, load textures, etc. it does not compile scene. all items and materials appear for editing but no scene in viewport??

I also get this issue but it was also on earlier standalone builds.
Have you tried opening an earlier ocs file (not necessarily wity same obj) and importing the troublesome obj there?

Old scenes might not work without a RenderTarget. Add a new one or Copy/Paste the old one into the scene.
