Hi,
Just get an 1080 Ti.
From my 4K scene, I get 46% faster than my 1080 and 60% faster than my 980Ti.

From "fake" bench, I get over 200 :

It's an Founder model with max OC with air (just to find the limit), as all my rig is watercooled, the 1080ti will be WC soon.
It's a bit noisy with fan at 80% to maintain the T° below 50°C (23° in room) to cool enough to avoid throttle during the test.
Compare to my 980Ti founder, the air cooler has improved on the 1080 ti !

Thanks Itou. I am expecting massive delivery this week and hope on water I finally exceed 2k score.

what was the clock speed when you benched? and what kind of cpu doe you have? (because I heard in octane 3 cpu does maters a bit when benching).

CPU : Xeon E3-1230V2
1080Ti : maintain at 2100 MHz on core and 5500Mhz on VRAM. No add Vcore as, when I add some 40mV, it is less stable.
I don't know if this speed could be stable during all the time, but for 30min, it does.

I am wondering if there is much difference for us Octaners to have a Founders edition or a modified version by EVGA, MSI, et cetera?
I am talking about cards on air, not hybrids.

Ofcourse the extra fans and other design on top of the pcb makes a difference for gamers who might really need that extra framerate while gaming. For rendering speed the custom cards might havea pro by just a little better performance, but cons on another perspective.

i.e. the custom built cards are heavier and thicker. If the Founder Edition is made to stick them together and still perform high, say 4 cards in a row, then that might be a pro over the custom cards... but do they perform well sticking together without slot space between the cards?

Maybe you guys have other ideas about pro and cons of Founders edition versus custom cards and also between the custom cards themselves.
I know there are cards with 2 slot, but also with 2,5 slot space, but mostlikely even the most the 2 slot cards cannot be sticked together for getting overheated by bad airflow. (I had this with my 780Ti's).

a lot of custom 1080 Ti are coming soon.

cheers,

Ah yes, that is a big overclock, nice! I am going for 5 x 1080 ti but not sure which card I am going for.

I prefer Founder edition as you can still using air cooling and stick 4 on the MB. The space between is not very large but a additional fan can blow fresh air to the founder blowers. All hot air will be extracted compared to custom that do not extract air and take most of the time for 1080ti 2.5 slot !
A plus is that, if you WC, you don't need anymore to cut the DVI !

I agree with itou31 - founders all the way, especially for those who are looking for aircooling. Waterblocks are also easier to get.
