Rounded Corners gives poor quality results

I recently had to drop Octane for a recent project because i discovered the rounded corners does not work so well with CAD data. It seems to be reliant on the topology of the mesh. It gives nasty artifacts that seem to be caused by the mesh topology.

Other renders engines apply this effect as a bump and work well with CAD data. Is this something that is fixable or likely to be fixed?

This feature is very important for product visualization work.

Hello again,

Is there any news on the updated rounded corners in Octane 3?

There was a slideshare news release that mentioned it would be coming in v 3.1 if my memory is correct.

Any Idea how long it will be?

Thanks very much for your reply,

I have been following that thread and I can see that there are some promising signs. I was hoping for a more firm commitment as to when users can expect these much anticipated features.

I can see that they confirms they had begun work on rounded corners about a month an a half ago. It would be good to know what the expected turn around time is for this kind of feature.

I'm not a core developer but if i talk from my experience: This is software development. Nobody could estimate unexpected problems during development phase. So hard to answer this kinda questions. One weeks or one years. Some luck and some hard work on alghoritms.

I understand...I can imagine there are a lot of variables when developing for Octane and I completely respect that it's very difficult to give an absolute answer.

I can imagine though that OTOY have some kind of development roadmap. If rounded corners are potentially coming in V3.1 then maybe a developer or project manager could disclose the proposed release date for that.

I can only guess at how things work in regards to how OTOY manage their development but it would be good if we could have some good news soon.

We do have a roadmap of course, and you can see details about it in this post from April available on the web:

https://home.otoy.com/octanerender-3-an ... ap-update/

Regarding rounded edges, a new implementation is still planned for v3.1 which has no release date at this moment.

However, an improved version is planned to be released before that so please keep an eye on future releases.
