Sweet customization Glimpse

I have the same set-up without the cool paint job or the custom jumper on you PSU and powering the card from the PSU as well....

Are you able to show me the parts you used to accomplish those little power alterations. I want to short out the MOB power supply connection like you did but did not know how to connect at the PSU end.

Also was afraid to fry the board by trying to power it from the PSU.

Did you wire that without any diagrams cause you have done it before or do you know of any place that has instructions etc.

I travel with that and dropping the brick and the MPB cable would be a nice leave behind aye.

Thanks

Peter

Thanks. Let's see..

as for "jumper" where 24pin wire should be. You probably use "paper clip" o nthe end of 24pin wire. Most of power supplies have the same layout on PSU side (needless to say on PC side, as it's sort of a stardand) for that wire as well, but to make sure, simply trace wires (Green & black) if Yours are colored & look where those end up in PS. You can use one 4pin end. Where to get it?

If You take CPU power wire (4+4) that should be unused if You have Akitio, You can cut one of 4 pin's. When You have that 4pin simply shorten two it's contacts (just try to make sure conector shape fits the sockets on the back of Your PSU..once You trace where those green + black wire goes). As for powering Akitio itself, buy barel plug (of cut one from Your power brick included with Akitio) & conect two of those yellow wires (+12V) - should go into center, while two black sould go to outer side of it (one wire might be enough though as well, however usign two is a bit more safe as You have less resistance).

You can also find schematics on google for 4+4, 6 or 6+2, molex, sata plugs if You want to make sure. One important thing is to look if Your PSU is capable to bring enough vatage. Single rail models are advised, but multirail would work as well if it's enough power on given rail. As far as I remember Akitio migh end up drawing more than 100W (but I hardly understand how, unless a lot of power is taken by device, like GPU itself).

I would add some photos later of those things (jumper & cable for Akitio) to explain a bit better, but overall it's very simple mod that would save You some space as You go. No need of messy 24pin wire, no need of additional Akitio power brick & it works flawless so far =) I'm not the first, nor the last doing this, so I see little to none risk doing that, but it's always good to be cautious =)

Complete noob when it comes to running this eGPU script, so, I would really appreciate some easy guidance here.

I am running OS 10.11.5 on a iMac(27-inch, Late 2012) and I am ready to run the goalque script but before I do so, I just want to make sure I do things in the right order to prevent bigger problems.

I have been following the forum here https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/7989-script-automating-the-installation-of-egpu-on-os-x-inc-display-output/&page=1

Full computer specs here:

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012)
Processor 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB

eGPU hardware on hand here:

Apple Thunderbolt Cable 2.0m
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Ti 6GB GDDR5
be quiet! DARK POWER PRO 11 750W PSU
Akitio Thunderbolt2 PCIe Expansion Box
Powered Riser Cable 16X PCI-E

According to http://osxdaily.com/2015/10/05/disable-rootless-system-integrity-protection-mac-os-x/ I need to disable System Integrity Protection first, correct? or no?

From what I understand the goalque script should detect OS X product and build, and automatically download and install correct Nvidia web driver, sounds great! Should I uninstall old drivers?

So, download goalgue script to desktop, open up Terminal and then execute the commands below?
chmod +x automate-eGPU.sh
sudo ./automate-eGPU.sh
and thats it?

Oh and I found this video very helpful but I am unsure what exactly is outdated in it. What instructions to follow and what to throw out.

That's my video, yes you want to disable system integrity, shut down the computer, then plug in your GPU, turn on the computer with the GPU plugged in, then run those scripts and terminal, restart. Once you restart you should be able to look into device manager and see the GPU. Then install cuda.

Does this script still only work when only one GPU is installed?

I don't follow? Because you want to run it with no GPU or multiple GPUs, or am I completely missing what your question is?

Sorry I wasn't clear!

In the past when I used this script, it would always prompt me that it only runs when there is only a single GPU installed. I would need to remove my other GPU in the TB chassis before it would work. I stopped using it and went back to hacking the kexts manually due to this. So I was wondering if it is still the case now.

Thanks for clarifying!

I ran the script on my MacBook Pro that has the NVIDIA chip built in, I don't think you should have an issue. Eitherway if you run it it won't hurt anything.

Hello natemac00,

Thanks for your reply! Thats all good to know.

One more thing, when you say "run the script," what does that actually mean? I have never bothered with Terminal, so this is all new to me. As far as I understand, I download the script to my desktop and then in Terminal, copy & paste the chmod +x automate-eGPU.sh + sudo ./automate-eGPU.sh and those commands basically "fish up" the script on my desktop and then performs it? I know, i know, i'm an amateur at this.

Should I uninstall any Nvidia drivers before doing any of this?

Thanks again!
