Same Mesh, Same Material, Different Result??

This is driving me up the wall...
I export and re-import a model into C4D without making any changes to it, apply the same material, same phong tag, same mesh no changes...but one of the meshes reflects properly, and the other doesn't. What is happening?
Here are the same mesh side by side. What is happening?

More information: I think it has something to do with temporarily stored UV's or vertex order that gets changed when it exports and reimports back in?
I noticed that the normal map is m apping wrong and was distorting the reflection, which explains why the surface looks smooth in profile, but the reflection is bumpy..but it makes no sense since it's the same model, had no UV map, nothing was touched, etc. ..I don't understand why it would map the normal map differently just from exporting the model as .obj and importing it again?

Hi,
do you have a c4d Normal tag on the imported .obj?
If yes, try to delete it, and double check the Phong tag.

Alembic is strongly recommended and a "worldwide standard".
