opacity how it works

Hi, a really really don't understand how it works. For example I would like to use a logo over a texture (mesh for example) but when I apply that the texture (mesh) disappear.. i try in every mode that i see online. Anyone has a guide?

don't know if it's the best way but i use a Mix node - background texture as 'First Texture', and foreground texture (in your case the logo) as 'Second Texture', then connect your opacity map to the 'Amount'
