Mac to PC - underwhelmed

I have recently bought a high spec PC. A 64 core threadripper with 2 x 3090s and 128GB RAM. I am running c4d r23, Octane 2021.1-R6 and HDR Light Studio. While the 3090s churn through renders quickly, general interactivity, i.e moving windows, clicking buttons, just trying to work fluently etc etc is really clunky. My old Mac Pro 2010 completely smokes it in that regard. How can this be? Is there some setting in Windoze that I need to change? I thought I'd be blown away by the performance, but I'm working much slower than normal because of the general lagginess.

Anyone got any suggestions? What's the best system monitor for PC that can show me what's going on?

You might be happier running Linux, if all of your apps will run on it. I use Linux at home and have for 20 years, but I'm forced to use Windows at work. I use a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 (i7-10510U) for my work and it barely makes Windows palatable. From my experience it doesn't matter how fast your system is, Windows finds a way to slow it down. Also OSX and Linux have much more in common than OSX and Windows do.

Things you describe as laggy are single core speed dependent so make sure your system
Is benchmarking properly.

I’d run benchmarks like Cinebench and Geekbench to make sure your single and multi thread performance is on par with similar CPU.

I transitioned from an iMac Pro to a 3970x with 2x 2080ti (now 2x 3090) workstation about two years ago and have been pleased as far as support and speed go. I can’t wait to switch back to Mac but that’ll take some time until I trust that choice.

What storage do you use? Are you using hard drives outside of backup/ storage?

Otherwise if you’re still within a return window Cinema benefits more from single core speed than multithreading. It’s possible a cpu like the 12900KF is the best for your situation. BUT either way your current setup should run circles around a 5,1 Mac Pro.
