I downloaded this training. It has helped me with a few things but it brushes over a lot of things and dismisses many items as "self-explanatory". Although these are usually self-explanatory, they aren't always so obvious. I was encouraged to go for the purchase when I was curious how the "subdivision group" settings in the object tag work. Sadly, when I watched the section on object tags, this information was explained to be "self-explanatory" which didn't help me at all. :( I understand subdivisions, but I don't understand exactly how these settings are supposed to benefit me and how I should be setting them. They seem important. Could someone help me out here?

Hey Gary,
these are basic/general concepts which are by no means specific to Octane. The way mesh subdivision works is identical to the way it operates in most 3D packages. What's different is that Ocatne (your GPU) calculates it at render time.

I do not agree on the term "brushes over a lof of things". I believe I covered almost everything there is to be covered.
Thank you for purchasing. Let me know if you need more help.

p.s. Just added a couple of free samples url's in the description

Cheers.

Something on displacement maps would have been awesome, but none-the-less, this is a fantastic tutorial series. Between you and Dominik (Curse-studio.com), there's no reason anyone can't jump into Octane now.

Hey dotcommer,
thanks for the kind feedback.

There is a lesson dedicated to displacement. Did you check it out? That's all there is to it for the moment.

I just bought this tutorial because of this never updated manual, I lose a lot of time searching for information, reading and reading topics again.

I just watched the Displacement tutorial, I was expecting a little more but it was useful.

And this voice, it's not a pleasure to follow.

Remembers me "The Analyst" by Arpanet. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u19GPm1n7tE)

Next time find ask a girl that is not 8 hours a day in front of a computer for the voice.

His voice is fine. I had no trouble following, concentrating, understanding, or anything else. It was a great overview and intro to get me comfortable with Octane.

I really enjoyed this training. Octane is my first third party renderer so this level of training was perfect for me. The course was logically laid out, very thorough, and clearly well designed. I certainly learned far more than I thought I would. It struck a very strong balance between what we needed to know and what we could learn by ourselves while playing. it is an excellent introduction course.

Lets talk about narration. Each module or learning objective is short, and clearly scripted. (Actually pretty well written from a technical perspective) To western ears it may sound "robotic" but as others have pointed out you get over it quickly, besides as I mentioned, each section is short so if it really bothers you just watch the sections that interest you most. From a post production perspective it sounds professionally produced and the narrator clearly knows his audience and demonstrates strong technical understanding. The author uses really interesting models to highlight technical points in each module which adds to the visual engagement.

The only gripe I have is that for future training if they could create a html Index so all the separate videos are accessible in a single location. That and for some reason I felt this weird compulsion that I should be smoking a cigarette and drinking vodka while I was listening to it : )

Overall excellent training !

EDITED:
i originally posted a negative feedback. I had problems with downloading the training and when i extracted the archives i didn't have all the videos, but i assumed that i did.
apologies, the training is a good solid introduction to octane, looking forward to a more project based training from you, dobs!
