A. WIN 10
B. Titan X Pascal (2x) + 980 Ti (2x)
C. 128GB ram
D. Nvidia driver version 26.21.14.4219
E. OctaneRender 2019.1.3
F. OctaneRender C4D 2020.1 r5
G. Cinema 4D R21.115

Hello,

Was working away on a project when suddenly Octane just crashes. I was working in the node editor with the IPR window enabled, there wasn't anything special - no new installs or plugins - just working away refining some shaders when C4D crashes with the error that Octane.dll has crashed:

---
'Plugin Error
The plugin octane.dll has crashed.
More information can be found in
C:\Users\...

After click 'OK' unsaved scene files will be saved as'
---

I tried re-installing octane to no avail. Even loading other projects made in Octane now seems to crash. At this point C4D will crash immediately upon loading stating that octane.dll has crashed. But 90% of the time, the crashes happen when I attempt to render to the IPR.

Attached at the bottom of this post is where I believe the error is logged in the Bug Report but I can't make any sense of it, I'll also attached the BugReport.zip to this post.

Please help! I am at a loss! Thank you!

Bobby

To avoid confusions,
Is it crashing very simple scene's too? Can you render a box in LV without crash?

Hello,

Yeah I tried rendering simple scenes and they work.

I narrowed down the issue to the textures. It seems that if I save all the textures with the 'tex' folder, Octane will not crash. However if these textures are linked to a path somewhere else on my hard-drive then octane.dll crashes. I'm proceeding by saving a copy of my textures/HDR maps locally but this is somewhat impractical in the long run as my hard-drive will fill up real quick if I always need to have a copy of my textures/sequences per project.

Have you encountered this before and if so, do you recall any solutions?

Thank you!

Thanks for your feedback!

I don't suppose that should be a problem to use external files! You can use any files from out of the project path in theory, but maybe a problem we didn't match before.

Asking to be sure:
Where do you keep other textures used in the project?
Network path/ NAS drive or local hdd?
Also having very long path and filenames in total?

And what happens if you clear texture cache by "Empty texCache" and disable it from settings->other?
