Just an idea with regards to the new UI, you may want to look at subduing some of the levels of the background colors. They make it hard to read the text because the levels are so close to the white text. The worst offender is highlighting. The yellow and white are very similar in value. While it doesn't affect me, having colored buttons may not be useful and could pose a hindrance for those who have different forms of color blindness.

Based on the recent refresh the Octane Node Renderer (still older style), I'm assuming Octane will never fully embrace C4D's Node Editor like Redshift and Arnold have?

It's still on development by me and things can be improved. Also we have settings to customise the colors,etc... I can revise the highlights for buttons, that's not a matter. Making a C4D node editor support is not possible yet. Rather than this I prefer to improve our editor.
Also you can make it hidden or auto-hidden if you wish.

UPDATE: R2 up for some minor fixes, especially for Node Editor.

Great to see the node editor given some love, thanks a lot. :)

A feature I love in Cycles: cutting node connections by holding ALT and dragging a cut through the connection. Would this be possible? The double click is sometimes a bit tedious to perform...

I always love it, because I wrote it from zero. You can remove connection or insert nodes by holding ALT. But It's deleting the resolved node, it may not be proper.

I know, but imagine cutting multiple connections by simply holding ALT and drawing a line? Would it be theoreticly possible.

Edit: is there a way to hide the yellow status bar inside the node editor?
