Should I be trying to adjust
LV REFRESH TIME (MS)
or
PERFORMANCE TIME (MS)
?

Not a good explanation of these in the help files. Should performance go up or down?
Still does not explain why in C4D and in Max users say since RC7 performance is way down in the interface of whatever 3D app, Max or C4D

Dear Octane C4d community.

I recently lost one of my 4 GPUs and upon replacement I come to buy a RTX model for the first time. My other 3 GPUs are GTX. Is there any problmes in mixing RTX and GTX GPUS for using Octane 3 or 4?

Best.
Moritz

I don't think it's related with these. Pls post your settings->other and settings->devices. It should be something about your hardware and octane. For example I don't see long lags on my system with two gpus. Completely fluent. Did you try to disable monitor connected gpu from rendering or select LOW priority for that?

Thanks for the reply Aoktar.
Monitors here are not affecting the GPUS as this is MAC with eGPU, so GPUs for CUDA are separate to display.
Settings in "other" should be default except where I changed performance time last night from 100 to 50. Attached screenshot.
I am now also getting error log messages - unable to close log - every few minutes while rendering.

I don't understand how it can be hardware when it used to be very responsive and now is not, with no changes here except newer versions of Octane standalone and plugin?

If I open log viewer, always blank.

The actual log txt file is 226mb and contains millions of lines of this
2019-02-11 09:13:01][1] MotionProcessor::findMotionData()
[2019-02-11 09:13:01][1] MotionProcessor::findMotionData()

[2019-02-11 09:13:01][1] MotionProcessor::findMotionData()
[2019-02-11 09:13:01][1] MotionProcessor::findMotionData()

Every now and then it also says
[2019-02-11 02:29:50][1] Cannot found VERTEX CACHE on time 0 tCnt:2[2019-02-11 02:29:50][0] Extrude ANIM VERTEXS INVALID
[2019-02-11 02:29:50][1] MotionProcessor::findMotionData()

But the UI slowdown is not specific to this scene or project.

Another thing - unrelated to UI slowdown (perhaps)
Since updating to 4 stable, when rendering to PV, hard disk space is continually taken up by files in the C4D prefs folder, subfolder "pv" with names like 9524709.b3d. Each one is around 230mb.
Is this an Octane thing or something else? After some time this fills the remaining 50gb space I have on the system drive and I have to purge manually.

There was no any of these models in V2/V1

Indeed there was not... I already sent you a file in PM explainig this bug - you answerd me with a R19 test version wich unfortunatelly I can't test since I'm a R20 user.
I will explain again: shaders coming from files created with v1, v2 won't be able to use this different BRDF models other than "Octane" in V4, no matter how many times I toggle it's option.
Cheers,

This is slightly off topic but is there any chance you can zip the Windows files instead of RAR? Windows has native unzipper but needs third party software for RAR.

I prefer best and a common tool on compressing because of size. Is it a big problem to install the RAR software?

I can confirm that the problems that sbstnc is having with an unresponsive LV are happening for us as well.
We also have a dual card setup and even switching off one card in the settings does not help with the interface freeze happening inside C4D.

As far as we can tell it is related to the scene complexity since it is only happening in heavy scenes with thousands of objects and a big amount of geometry and textures.
We are currently in the midst of finishing a project which has to be done by the end of february so we can't help with finding the cause of the issue due to time constraints.

Just wanted to say that we are experiencing the issue as well but are working around it by only activating the LV when setting up lighting and camera.

Best regards,
forward

Hi Ahmat. Thank you for this release.

I have a question:
Can there something be done about the rather large compression when saving OpenEXR from the octane save menue.
I usually save through C4D because of that. But with for example Render Layers Black Shadow, this is not possible (needs to go through Octane save dialog)

When I do that, I usually get much larger EXR files.

This is not completely release depended as I noticed that behavior in versions before.

I hope you see what I mean.
I would really appreciate if you can take a look an eventually come up with a solution.
Thank you for your great work.

I attached a simple scene file. Make sure the output paths are matching your machine.
As you probably understand it´s not about the scene, its about the EXR File size compared between C4D and Octane.

Cheers,
Raphael
