Slow compilation in scenes with high object count.

Hi everyone,

I see that there are a bunch of people having issues with slow compilation times in 3DS Max. I mentioned this in the facebook group and Jules believes "it’s definitely an object gathering overhead issue" within the 3DS Max plugin.
I noticed the slow compilation times when I was working on my arch viz projects. I decided to do a simple test using 10,000 arrayed cubes with a simple grey diffuse material.

Here are the compilation times

10,000 individual objects
3.08 - 8 minutes 2 seconds
V4 - 6 minutes 23 seconds

Same polycount - cubes joined into a single mesh.
3.08 - 1.23 seconds
V4 - 1.13 seconds

Would you be able to share with us a max file and/or orbx please?

Jules Urbach:

"So we did our own testing today to get to the bottom of this - and this doesn't seem to be anything in the core engine, as you can load in thousands of objects and millions of polys per second in V4 standalone as expected. We will have to look into why the 3DS Max plug-in is causing the slowdown in gathering objects, but by all accounts this is a fixable bug, not anything having to do with Octane's ability to process scenes or geometry.

..and the 3DS Max bug is found and fixed, and scene compilation should be back to milliseconds, not minutes. Christophe will make a post on this update in the forums shortly. Thank you everyone who reported this to me, sorry this wasn't addressed much sooner."
