Hi If we choose a new texture bitmap image or material there is no update in the main texture until the material is copied to another 3ds max mat slot. Then texture gets updated. Video attached
even using 2d transform etc does not update bitmap in real time. we use max 2018.3 not sure if max is the problem

not detected this issue; I do not know what version you are using, I tested 4.41 and the new 4.43 I'm testing.
You could try Octane Global Preferences > Trouble Shooting > discard changes while no wiewport.
About 2018.3 issues, I also encountered problems after upgrading.
