Hi cc24ex,
you can install the files manually.
The first step is to unzip the installer (eg: right click on OctaneRender_for_3ds_Max_3.08-RC1_-_5.02.exe, and select the unzip option)
(Windows usually has build-in tools to unzip files. If not, you may need to install a unzip software, like 7zip)
Open then the unzipped folder, eg 'OctaneRender_for_3ds_Max_3.08-RC1_-_5.02', and note that is contains several folders with numbers, starting with "$_"

Instructions for max2018:

Copy the content of "$_8_plugins" to
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2018\Plugins\
(1 file : Octane3dsmax.dlr)

and the content of "$_8_" to
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2018
(3 files : octane.dat, octane.dll, libfbxsdk.dll)

If your 3dsmax in not installed in 'C:\Program Files\Autodesk\', you can find the location by opening the properties of the max icon's shortcut.

Use the corresponding folder for your max version
max2018 : $8
max2017 : $7
max2016 : $6
max2015 : $5
max2014 : $4
max2013 : $3

Note that 3ds Max Design versions use the same files, but are stored in different folders
$14 = $8 = max2018
$13 = $7 = max2017
$12 = $6 = max2016
$11 = $5 = max2015
$10 = $4 = max2014
$9 = $3 = max2013

Rik wrote:Is there an option to ignore the normal directions of polys?
I have plants with loads of polygons, roughly half face one way, half the other. Not sure how they ended up like this but hey...

These rendered fine in 3.07
3,07.jpg
but in 3.08 the polys with opposite facing normals are much darker which means I can't use the plant models.
They're Octane proxies with glossy material applied to the leaves.
Went back to 3.07 and rendered this with the intention of doing a 3.08 version to show the issue. However, when I try to go back to 3.08 it fails to install so guess I'm stuck back on 3.07 for now.

HI Rik,
could you please share your model (in p.m. i f you want)?
I'd like to check this 3.08 normal issue you reported.

Our plugins and octane render are digitally signed, witch means it's safe to install and use.
This should not affect the installation or usage of our software, but there might be some issues in some cases, that should be easy to fix.For example, windows defender or other anti virus may not recognize our certificate as 'trusted'
You may need to Install a certificate manually.
To check if our certificate is recognized by Windows, or to install it, you can right click on the installer file (eg: OctaneRender_for_3ds_Max_3.08-RC1_-_5.02.exe),
and open the tab 'Digital Signatures'. You should see "OTOY, Inc." as Name of signer.
Click on the Details button, (it should display 'This digital signature is OK.')
The 'View Certificate' allows you to install this certificate manually.
I hope this will fix your problem.

I tried to manually install certificate. said - imported successfully but it didn't help.
The same problem with octane 4 xb1. I can install it but can not run because of signature.
Octane 3.07 works fine.

UPD.
It works with "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" in F8 menu.

Edit by moderator: Please do not disable Driver Signature Enforcement, as this disables an important security feature of Windows.
Instead please follow the steps posed in this thread.

I'm confused by DCC and standalone, does this work with 4.0? If this does work with 4.0, is the features working like denoise or light AI?

.. heyall, thanks paride for the install instructionts, I managed..
.. but again with this movable proxy on lights bug - this was on last version and from 6 months ago as well

- when you make lights not movable, something changes and there's less power - try it on sometimes, if you have everything set as movable proxy set as non movable.. I had this on two machines .. and just saw it today again
