im getting a very strange behavior with this version.
during Viewport rendering blank viewports start poping up. and i have to minimize those to get to the ACTUAL rendering vewiport.
rendering usually finishes but aftar that max crashes.
not sure what it is but it never happened to me before. only with this version.
for reference im using 3ds max 2018 and Nvidia studio drivers 462.59 on a Dual GTX 1080ti

one more thing is that when i open the slate material editor on right click to add a new material there is a 30-40sec freeze.
started happening when you added the maps and material groupings

any ideas?

martin

Hi MartinBoom
I tried it, using 3ds Max 2019 but it doesn't seem like any issue between previous releases. Do you have any details that might help? maybe you opened the meterial editor for the first time while Octane viewport was rendering?

Hi,

thanks for the reply.
im trying to install a new nvidia studio drivers from 462.59 to 471.11 to see if the the issue i described before. (the one that makes max crash)
regarding material editor: once i open a file and go to the material editor the first right click to browse materials/mapas freezes the editor for at leasy 20-30sec. and then never happens agian.
the other issue ill try a screen recording since its difficult to explain. might be a driver issue.
any recomentations regarding best driver to use with this octane version?

regards

Hi MartinBoom,
I'm using Nvidia 471.11 Studio version, it seems to work fine.

1 Updates windows 10 to latest build available.
2 Unistall the Nvidia drivers using DDU Nvidia unistaller drivers tool.
3 install latest Nvidia "studio driver" available, not "game ready". Don't install GeForce Experience and make a clean installation.

Hi paride,

thanks for the reply.

the slow Slate material editor apparently was caused by a vray installation (or a buggy one) so thats that.
the issue regarding the max crashing (not allways..but often) after rendering via Octane viewport i guess is has to do with windows update-nvidia drivers. Windows does something strange with
the opened windows explorer windows. just siiting there it scales them and the screen flickers. its like a second. i guess this issue is affecting Octane since is so heavily dependent on GPUs.
i'll follow your advise and see if that does it.

as a side note. im a bit outside the OCIO workflow / profiles etc. is there any tutorial o guide on why was added to Octane and a workflow or best practices. im already using the linear workflow with 2.2 gamma so i was wondering if i should look into it

thanks again

Hi neonZorglub,

would you check this i wrote?
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=78049

I noticed the ocioview odt are being baked into the exr file.
Also for previewing the srgb odt correctly ... i am forced to turn on gamma hack in octane setup... which for correct rendering i have to turn off with ociewview odt in the camera to save the exr properly using F10 of course.

Thanks!

May I ask if there's any updates in relation to the issues with Forest Pack rendering mentioned in this:

https://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=77450&start=10

and this:

https://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=77331&start=20

thread? We have had an internal project hanging for literally months now with no update on the issue and management is asking where the hold up is. It would be great to know when will there be an update released that addresses this bug.

Best regards!

I apologize for my English.
I noticed a strange bug.
In a scene, I use ParticleFlow with an instance object that has animation. If in the window "OctaneRender viewport" to watch the animation, then the animation is not played. But, if you play the animation on the contrary, the animation is played. In Render Setup - Support - PFlow I tried absolutely all options, but it doesn't help.

That would be clearer I will attach a link to the video.
