Same. The workaround right now is if it starts doing that, Hit Ctrl+Alt+Dlt (yes really) and wait about 10-20 seconds on that blue screen that shows up. Then click cancel and usually all the flashing/grayed out areas are ready to go again.

damn, OK that's something at least, I hit minimize all and hope something happens ..

BTW can we now install the latest nvidia drivers - can anyone confirm they did this - also nice work on the phoenix fd - first time ever seems it works :)

..also, been testing vray next, I don't know man, it's like, it still isn't up to speed with octane, not responsive and slower to rende, very noticably slower, 10 sec in octane vs few mins in vray.. might be a bit sharper, but main thing it offers is how compatible it is with everything else - I mean, octane is still pretty much destroying vray in my oppinion (didn't try anything huge to compare)..

- also I found this refreshing of every 3dsmax window that is opened, blinks out each window, and goes around, and that refreshing might take like 10 minutes sometimes - not sure if autosave triggers it, anyone else with this?

Yes. I get the same thing, usually followed by a crash of Max.

I should clarify that I get this on v 4.02.1 6.15; I'm not using v2018.

everything running great. and then hard crash and freeze on using denoiser on 6000x2511 21:9 (my monitor is 3440x1440), works great at low res and then explodes on hi res .. what does denoiser use - cpu or gpu? Does it need a lot more vram? Maybe it overheated severely at that moment, anyone else?

EDIT 3 times in a row, same thing, same settings, now it crashed max and reseted the gpu drivers - my scene is 80mb with a xref to 120mb 8gb vram usage, works fine until I bump it to 6000x2511px - should I denoise it on the rtx or on the display gpu that is not runing the render? ..

980ti for display, 1080ti and 2080ti for rendering

gonna install new nvidia drivers I guess..

Hi acc24ex,
denoiser works with a small part of VRAM, the rest is RAM.
you can check that using windows task manager increasing rendersize step by step.

..cool
OK now my 980ti won't load - it's on 1x PCIE usb extender (also network card doesn't work, so maybe mobo isn't in a great shape), so now I'm using 1080ti to display and denoise, turned off ai lights also new nvidia drivers and it didn't self destruct - so.. OK suggestions for anyone else - new drivers, use a non rendering gpu to denoise (maybe AI lights had something to do with it - gonna test more)

EDIT using 1080ti and 2080ti to render and 2080ti to denoise and tone.. lowered the res to 3440x1440, and all is fine.. only some crazy thing happens when I try to save to jpg, as soon as I reach the save dialouge to confirm the compression ratio and to click save - the render window starts twitching reloading, blanking in and out, and have to wait for a minute, or more to actually get back and press save - and another crazier thing is that often times it removes the xref objects and continues rendering without it, and restarts render as well

- it was ok before this, before I started using denoiser, now I run it on completion.. a bit crazy, but lets see what does it, ai lights maybe?

Hi acc24ex,
keep me posted, said that, my advice is run denoiser on completation, you will save a lot of rendering time overall.

..yeah I ran denoiser on completion, I mean it's then just matter of punching in the max sample number if I wanna see the current situation.. can we somehow have the denoiser to run without restarting octane viewport when enabled

.. if I have a script that says at current sample count set the max samples same as current - that would stop the render and would run the denoiser (which is what I'm doing by hand) - you should do this - maybe even run as another button on viewport toolbar - as experimental feature until we figure a nicer way .. just for better user experience

Update - still with this crazy slowdown upon pressing the save image - and pauses and twitches for a minute when I press the OK, and as a bonus it restarts the octane viewport.. I even did a "port to max frame buffer" and closed the octane viewport, and again same .. which makes me think it's a max bug? oor, maybe something to do with saving of passes?

Hi acc24ex,
personally I have not issue as you report, said that, you request depends on SDK.
I prefer work with denoiser on completion, checking it and increasing max sample steb by step.

Hows the progress going with 3ds max slowdowns / Material Editor stuff? Can we expect improvements with the next release? Using the latest Creator Edition Drivers and they are pretty stable.

displacement breaks vertex color things .. Not good... or is there some workaround?
