I have a very big problem with forest pack. During animation rendering forest objects disappear after 30-40 frames. Not always but some scenes. Another problem is after a while (I dont know cause exactly) in octane viewportt stucks at 1 sample and estimated time changes continually.I guess forest pack problem exists in this scenes. I had this problem in test 3 431 too

This issue does not always happen (to me), I did not understand when and why.
It might help a self-closing Octane render Viewport first open a new project.
Minimize the 3dsmax window, sometime it resolve this issue.

yeah I try and close it now when I remember to do it, but this is a bug a few versions ago, I forget sometimes to close it.. it auto closed before, now it seems it doesn't.. and it seems it always does this - it's max 2017 win 10

@wisemanxxx
about your viewport stuck sample issue:
Workaround: Use only whole numbers in Expected exposure.
around FP, I tried to make some tests, but I have not encountered problems;
you could try to make it movable proxy.

Hey,

I already discovered some issues with this version:

1. The render viewport stops in the middle of the rendering (for example 766 from 1000 samples, next try 520 from 1000 samples). It's also impossible to save the so far rendered image. Nothing happens when pushing the button.
When restarting the render viewport afterwards, it loads the geometry but remains black.

2. The screenshot shows how my materials look like in the material editor in the former version (v3.06 TEST 3 - 4.31). It also affects the materials while rendering (see reflection in mirror for example).
Octane Bug V3 materials.jpg

Please fix these issues. We can't work with the last stable version, because of the greyscale image bug (we cannot open ANY of our old scenes then without having to recreate dozens of materials). And we cannot work with this version either because the renderer gets stuck.

We're honestly thinking about leaving Octane (so far we're working with 3 licenses) and switching to another renderer. Not only that forest pack and railclone aren't properly supported after YEARS of asking for it (RC instances, FP edge cutting, FP materials), but we now have to be afraid that every version brings another fatal bug. You should really think about your policy.

I am really sorry for having to write this, we do like Octane for it's render quality but at the moment but we’re really stressed by working with Octane. For every project we have to sacrifice at least half a day’s until a day’s work time for fixing Octane problems, installing different versions and so on…

Hi Philipp,
you could use 4.32 instead 4.31; normal map issue has been fixed and 4.32 has an improved AS.
https://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=60629#p310213
About the issue you should sample block Use only whole numbers in Expected exposure (4.32 is a test version).

What exactly ISO parameter stands for in case of Phoenix FD modifier? I cant access the temperature channel - it is always glowing, like there is no way of seeing black smoke. With use of standard octane volume object I can use smoke as scatter channel - then it renders black as it should.

Okay - it seems if you use scatter volume map in Medium slot you can arrange settings in a way that allows smoke to be black and fire being emissive.
Thank you Paride, you are doing great job since you are here!

BTW, what can be done for octane for max? It's almost perfect ;) Any new features except bug hunting?

Best,

Hi Norman_Stansfield,
I'm not sure if you're referring about this, in volume data level sets are encoding thin envelope shell surface.
Octane supports loading these volumes as well.
The setting known as the "isovalue" is provided which allows you to set the thickness of this surface.

Hello,
About livepreview stucks at 1 sample.
Try to check the "animation only at render time" box under animation panel of your itoo forest plugin.
And look at the itoo forest compatibilities about objects are disappeared, the animation mode have some troubles with Octane ;).

Cheers.

Hello there.
I can't render a VDB file(attached). Also I've noticed some glitches in the octane render viewport when I create a volume object.
And it's a bit confising for me. If I have a sequence of VDBs starting from 75 frame(and each frame is a separate VDB file), which frame should I set in the octane volume object?

Regards,
-Pavel

EDIT. By glitches I mean that the live preview stucks at low sample level(1-2 samples)
