This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for Carrara 2018.1.x.

Carrara Version
Carrara 8.1 Pro (64bit) or later on Windows 7, 8 or 10 64bit

Nvidia Driver Version
Nvidia drivers 387.x or later
Please be aware that the 418.81 driver does not work with Octane, and we recommend that you update to 419.17 which fixes the issue.

Network Rendering
For Network Rendering, you must use the Octane slave release 2018.1.3 Release available here.

If you have a support issue, please provide the following information:
- Operating System (ex. Win 7, 8, 10)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ex. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- Carrara version
- OctaneRender for Carrara version (ex. 5.00.03.01)

- The most important part of resolving a problem is me being able to re-produce that problem. So please provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

If you find a bug and don't report it then it will not get fixed.

Release Notes

Changed in 5.00.03.01
  • Compiled with Octane SDK 2018.1.3. See here for more details.
Changed in 5.00.00.00
  • Compiled with Octane SDK 2018.1.1. See here for more details.
  • Cryptomatte (New render passes found in the Octane Render Target settings)
  • Deep render passes (Deep render passes can now be saved in EXR format)
  • Vectron (analytic geometry) - Vectrons are supported in Carrara by using an Octane Geometry Proxy node. More on this later...
  • Spectron (procedural volumetric light system) - Supported by adding an Octane Volumetric Light to the scene. This light is only visible in an Octane render.
  • Much less volume render noise
  • NV Link support on RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti (Enterprise only)
  • Direct Levelset surface rendering from VDB (can be fed into Vectron) - This is supported by adding an Octane Material Shader to a volume instead of an Octane Medium Shader.
  • Scatter depth limiting (i.e. fast fog rendering)
  • Cached compressed textures
  • For full 2018.1 Octane release notes see here.

The Octane Geometry Proxy is a Geometry node that you can add to a Carrara scene to render any Octane geometry network (including scenes (alembic) and Vectrons).

You can add multiple shaders to the network as well as up to 5 float values. The float values are useful if you want to animate a settings.

You can add any Octane geometry you want including Vectrons, Volumes, and Alembics.
