Hi Guys,

I need some help here.
Do you have a solution for making a correct OBJ for using in Octane Standalone fromout Autocad 13?
That might be a solution for my problem.

My client is working with Autocad 13 and has modelled a very complex shape.
We are trying to exchange the model so I can make a nice viz,
but we are not able to exchange it correctly.
You can see the shape is having strange artefacts.

I am working with Archicad, and normally I can import (3D)-dwg, but it goes wrong with complexed shapes.
I tried FBX, STL and DWG.
So I tried to use Artlantis as inbetween, but that does not work as well.
I also tried Cinema4D as inbetween, but not the wanted result.

Maybe anyone has another idea of exporting fromout Autocad 13 correctly to be used in Archicad (plugin) or Octane Standalone?

greetings,

Hi guys,

A little update here: I almost gave it up, but I have found a solution.
Only theis solution is not a general solution and it would be nice to have another way of exachanging.

I opened the dwg in Artlantis with adjusted 3D triangulation settings!
and the dwg had to be saved as Autocad version10 to be able and open it correctly.
And then export it to OBJ (after having materials tweaked a bit).

greetings,

That is probably the best solution Jeroen. AutoCAD will not export to OBJ in a sufficiently reliable way to be of use in Octane.

Hi Paul,
Good to know. Glad my 'old' render software has use for something after all ;)
Then for Archicad users (or Standlone Octane) without having Artlantis (or other sofatware that can do the same) it will be difficult to exchange with Autocad users having complexed shapes!
Anyway.. if some Autocad user has any idea, please drop it.
greetz,
